WELCOME TO CORMO 24-7

We are pleased that you stopped by to learn about the Cormo Breed.

The Cormo breed is a wonderful addition to any fiber flock. The Cormo Sheep was developed in Tasmania by I.K.Downie. Mr. Downie crossed the finest Corridale rams with 1200 carefully selected Superfine Merino ewes. The origninal selection criteria included: high clean fleece weight, fiber diameter of 17-23 microns, fast body growth rate, and a high rate of fertility. The result is fast becoming one of the softest, wearable, wool producing breeds in the sheep industry today. The fiber length runs about 4.5-5.5 inches, weighing 10-12 pounds per fleece in a year's time. They are shorn once a year.

The Cormo's selling points do not end with their wool quality. Cormos are considered easy keepers. They are small to medium size sheep, and therefore require less feed than the larger breeds. They are rugged and lamb easily, with muliple births. With assisted lambing, crops can be 150%-180%. The Cormo has wonderful mothering skills. The lambs are hearty at birth and bond well with their mothers.

Cormos are out-of-season breeders which enables the Shepard or Shepardess a choice of lambing dates.

This is Arti and her triplets from last spring.
She had them outside in the "run in" barn and photo was taken when I put her in the jug. Lambs are about 3 hours old.

I also have a flock of 5th generation Cormo-Crosses that are colored.

My CormoXs are bred to meet the fleece and vigor requirements of the registered standards, but are colored, so they are not registerable.

Last but not least...I have a 3 ewe group of Tunis. I breed these sheep for their exceptional meat quality. They have a medium wool , but the meat is unbeliveably tasty! Lambs will be available this spring.
